BASS CAMPER SCHOLARSHIPS - Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) provides financial need scholarships to assist Girls or Children In Action and Acteens or Youth on Mission through the summer camping program at CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center. This scholarship was established by Robert Bass in honor of his wife, June Bass. Scholarship aid shall be given to qualifying Girls in Action (GA), Acteens, Children in Action (CIA) or Youth on Mission (YOM) who are active in either of these organizations and who attend a church affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). Applicants are eligible for one scholarship per camping year. Scholarship aid may be given to qualifying applicants from a state or country which is actively involved in a Partnership Missions initiative of the BGAV. Scholarship aid may be given to a current camp staff team to go to another state or country to assist that state or country with the summer camping program for one week.


CAMP STAFF SCHOLARSHIPS - Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) has established college and graduate school scholarship grants to staffers who serve during summer camp at CrossRoads. Priority for scholarship aid will be given to students who are members of churches served by the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV).

 

CROSSROADS CONNECTION SCHOLARSHIP - The Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) provides partial scholarships to assist children or youth through the summer camping program at CrossRoads who are not involved in a local church and who meet financial eligibility. The purpose of this scholarship is to increase the number of children who can benefit from the camping experience at CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center (CrossRoads). Children are eligible for the CrossRoads Connection Scholarship if they: a) need financial assistance, b) are not currently eligible for other established camp scholarships, and c) lack affiliation in a church. This scholarship is designed to foster a relationship between a child, along with the child's family, and a local church, giving preference to a Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) church. The scholarship will provide at least one half (1/2) of the camp fee for the child and the church will mentor/nurture the child prior to and following the camping experience.

 

FLETCHER MAE HOWELL SCHOLARSHIP - The Fletcher Mae Howell Grant is named in honor of the 1933 first field missionary of Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) interracial work. Her first task was to develop and distribute suitable literature and to discover capable leadership. After ten years of faithful service, Miss Howell’s health failed and she retired from active service. Interracial advisory committees, bi-racial in membership, were firmly planted in many communities. WMUV received a small gift from Miss Howell to establish a scholarship in 1961. Since then,
WMUV has established and funded it as a permanent scholarship for African-American women.

 

ELSIE GILLIAM NURSING SCHOLARSHIP - The Elsie Gilliam Nursing Scholarship to the Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing was established in 1968 by a gift from the State Missions Thank Offering in memory of Elsie Gilliam. Elsie Gilliam was a missionary to China and trustee of the WMU Training School. In 1987, the Executive Board of Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) recalled the scholarship when the nursing school closed at the Virginia Baptist Hospital. WMUV then established a nursing scholarship fund in her memory. Scholarships shall go to Virginia Baptist nurses to do volunteer mission work in another country.

 

LISK SCHOLARSHIP - Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) has established a scholarship for Girls In Action GA’s) for the summer camping program at CrossRoads in memory of Kristen and Katie Lisk. Scholarships shall be given to outstanding Girls in Action who have exhibited leadership qualities in GAs and who attend a church affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). Applicants are eligible for one scholarship per camping year.

 

PARTNERSHIP COVENANT SCHOLARSHIP - The Partnership Covenant Scholarship provides special assistance to Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) leaders whose gifts and expertise may be needed to facilitate partnership goals and enhance mission experiences.

 

JEAN N. WOODWARD – MARGARET B. WAYLAND SCHOLARSHIP - The Jean Nelson Woodward - Margaret B. Wayland Scholarship (JNW/MBW) was established in honor of two former state presidents of Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV). Scholarship aid shall be give to qualifying potential women leaders in the state of Virginia who attend a church affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV).

 

SEMINARY SCHOLARSHIP - Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) will grant scholarships to women who are members of churches served by the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) who plan to attend any of the seminaries supported through the BGAV. No more than five (5) scholarships per academic year will be available.

 

SEMINARY INTERNSHIP SCHOLARSHIP - Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) will grant one or two intern scholarships of (a) tuition and/or (b) housing/stipend assistance per year to women who plan to attend any of the seminaries supported through the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV).

 

VIOLET MANN BONHAM PARISH NURSE SCHOLARSHIP - The Violet Mann Bonham Parish Nurse Scholarship was established in 2004 by a gift from the estate of Violet Mann Bonham. Violet Mann Bonham was a Christian and a Registered Nurse who wanted to provide scholarships to qualified persons to further their education in the Christian ministry. Scholarships shall go to Virginia Baptist nurses to do mission work in the Parish Nurse program.
