2007-2008 STATE CHILDREN'S PROJECT

GA is a missions organization for girls grades 1-6. Younger and older girls have their own magazines to maximize missions learning. The leader's magazine includes lessons written for younger, older, and blended groups. Mission projects help girls identify with the needs of others and see how they can make a diference in their world. For more information about Girls in Action, children's activity pages and leader's helps, go to www.gapassport.com.

World Ventures is an individual achievement program which encourages girls to develop a missions lifestyle as they get actively involved in missions and earn awards. There is a book of activities to be completed for each grade level, challenging girls to help others and share their faith in God. Choices are built into each level, enabling the girls to cater the program to their individual personalities.

CIA is a missions organization for boys and girls grades 1-6. Children become "agents" uncovering truth about missions and participate in "live action" projects. Responding to needs in their world helps children develop into caring adults. Meetings are activity oriented, involving children in hands on learning. For more information about Children in Action, activity pages to download, and leader's helps, go to http://www.wmu.com/orgs/children/childreninaction

Missions MatchFile is the curriculum designed for Children in Action. Its easy-to-use format and reproducible activity pages minimize teacher preparation time. The MK (missionary kid) prayer calendar helps children identify with missions on a personal level. The scripture memory program teaches children why we do missions. Other coed resources include:

  • Mission Kids - a missions program of individual achievement for 1st-6th grade boys and girls. Student books are available for each grade level. Children complete activities to earn prizes or awards. Additional awards may be earned for scripture memory.
  • Doing Missions in a World Without Borders - a program of missions education featuring Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries.

GA Camp, for 4th-6th grade girls, takes place each summer at CrossRoads Camp & Conference Center. Mom & Me Camp is a missions experience for 1st-5th grade girls and their mothers which is held each spring at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center, in Lynchburg, VA. Coed camp is offered for 4th-12th grade boys and girls. Family Adventure Camp is designed for families to retreat together. Parents and campers (kindergarten-12th graders) can experience a shortened version of summer camp.

Outstanding GA 2008

It is with much pleasure Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia announces Kathryn Eckler as the Outstanding GA 2008. Each year a 4-6 grade girl who exhibits a missions lifestyle is selected from the nominations received from churches across Virginia.

Kathryn, a 5th grader, enjoys knitting, singing in youth choir, puzzles, reading, and outside activities. She is active in Girls in Action at Aaron’s Creek Baptist Church in the Dan River Association. Not only does Kathryn participate in the many activities and ministry projects of her Girls in Action group, she is also busy planning ministry projects where she can
personally serve, such as making bookmarks to pass out at the nursing home while trick-or-treating, hosting a WorldCraft Party, or knitting hats for preemie babies. Kathryn is currently growing her hair for Lock’s–of-Love for a third time!

Donna Hallberg, Kathryn’s GA leader, shares that “all of Kathryn’s projects have focused on helping others and
sharing Jesus’ love with others.” Pastor Bill McEntire at Aaron’s Creek Baptist Church, says he “would not be surprised if Kathryn becomes another Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon.”

Congratulations, Kathryn, as you continue to learn about missions and do missions! Kathryn will receive the Lisk Scholarhsip, enabling her to attend a week of summer camp at CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center. She will also participate in leadership roles at various WMUV events throughout upcoming year! The Lisk Scholarship is awarded in memory of Kati and Kristen Lisk, two of Virginia’s outstanding GAs who loved GA camp.
