Great
Commission Teachers
Project
Ministering to educational
needs through literacy training, tutoring and the teaching of
English as a Second Language
In
order for one to know God's Word and obey His commands, the
ability to read and comprehend Scripture is beneficial. Therefore,
our mission as Believers is to reach other individuals for
Christ in our encounters with them as we assist them in learning
to understand the English language. Our
goal is to secure and coordinate Christian volunteers who will
establish relationships within our communities which may eventually
lead to witnessing opportunities. These relationships can be
formed by assisting in the following areas:
| English as a Second
Language |
Conversational
English |
| Literacy (adult
reading and writing) |
GED Preparation |
| Tutoring at-risk
children |
|
Mission Statement:
To motivate and equip Believers
to reach individuals for Christ through relationships formed
within local and global educational settings.
Our
Commission : Go
ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; teaching
them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
And, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.
(Matthew 28:19-20)
Our
Logo: To
represent the ideals in the Mission Statement, the open book
was chosen to represent the Word of God. The cross is symbolic
of our Christian beliefs, while the rising sun embodies the
light that literacy can bring to a life. Men, women and children
encircling the Bible represent those to be reached through
the ministry of the Great Commission Teachers.
Our
Ministry: The
number of adults and youth in our nation today who lack either
reading or language skills is staggering. The Department of
Education currently estimates the adult illiteracy rate at
23%. In Virginia, 19% of the adult population functions at
level 1 literacy (the lowest literacy level). Five out of
every 100 young adults will leave high school without successfully
completing the program. More than 900,000 legal immigrants
who may need English language instruction are admitted into
the United States within a given year.
The opportunity to improve their
communication proficiencies can be life changing.
